Quicken was traditionally known as one of the best personal finance software options for desktop users. However, the Mac version had traditionally lacked the features found in the PC version, and that was disappointing to many users.
- Intuit Quicken Deluxe 2018 for Mac download, the latest cracked version of the latest upgraded version, the most useful personal financial management tool, allowing you to manage your taxes, transactions, costs, expenses, and general management of your finances.
- Quicken has been well-loved for most of its history; however, the recent acquisition and subsequent change from license pricing to subscription pricing has significantly increased the number of negative customer reviews.
- Interested in finding out if Quicken for the Mac 2018 Premiere is comparable with the Windows version, --or-- is the Mac version still far behind the Windows version - in terms of features?
- Quicken for Mac has lagged behind the Windows version for years and even though Quicken 2018 (and the recently released Quicken 2019) were an improvement, the decision to make it subscription only was the final straw for many faithful users.

Overview
![Quicken Quicken](/uploads/1/2/6/5/126526162/423854541.jpg)
Quicken is a personal accounting software program that allows individuals to take control of their finances; this software has been one of the biggest names in personal financing for decades. Quicken was created back in 1982. In fact, it was the product that launched Intuit (the creators of QuickBooks) into what they are today. It was acquired by H.I.G. Capital in 2016, and so far the company has not disappointed.
While some long-time users dislike the new yearly subscription pricing structure, Quicken is the same reliable, full-featured finance management tool it has always been. The software offers expense tracking, budgeting, reporting, retirement planning, and more. It also tracks your spending trends so you can know exactly where your money is going.
The software can be unintuitive at times and the lack of automatic transactions downloads is a bit of a time-waster; however, the software is still a great option for individuals looking to manage their personal finances. Read on to learn more.

Pricing
Rating: Good
Quicken offers three different pricing packages for personal financing software. Previously, customers were able to purchase licenses of the software, but the company has recently moved to a yearly subscription structure. While many users complain about the new yearly payments, Quicken is often running promotions on its site for discounted software.
There is no free trial of Quicken; however, there is a 30-day money back guarantee.

Quicken Basic and Quicken Deluxe users can opt to add premium customer support and/or bill pay for additional monthly charges.
Quicken also offers a Home & Business version that is ideal if you need combined personal and business finance management. The software works exceptionally well for managing rental properties. Read our full Quicken Home & Business review to learn more.
Cloud-Based Or Locally-Installed
Quicken is a locally-installed program, although internet access is required for certain features (like downloading bank transactions and bill pay). Unlike most locally-installed software, Quicken actually has mobile apps that sync directly with your installed Quicken profile, so you can access your data without being stuck at your computer.
Hardware & Software Requirements
Rating: Excellent
Quicken can be purchased for either Windows or Mac. The computer requirements vary for each.
Quicken 2017 For Mac
For Windows, users will need:
- Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10
- 1024 x 768 screen display
For Macs, users will need:
- OS El Capitan 10.11+
- 256 MB+
- 1280 x 800 screen display
Both products require an internet connection for setup. Unlike most locally-installed programs, Quicken actually offers mobile apps. The Quicken app is available for iPhones (iOS 9.0+) and Androids (4.1+).
Specific Size Of Business
Unlike most of the accounting solutions we review, Quicken Starter, Deluxe, and Premium are not designed for business use. Quicken is a personal finance management solution that is ideal for individuals who want to manage their money better. Quicken is best for more hands-on individuals who want a great deal of detail and control over their personal accounting and financial planning.
You can create multiple Quicken files using a single Quicken subscription.
Ease Of Use
Rating: Good
For the most part, Quicken is easy to use, although some features are not as intuitive as they could be. The software is well-organized and there are plenty of support options to help you learn how to use it. Some features do take a while to learn and a few users have complained that they think the software could be streamlined.
Features
Rating: Excellent
Quicken offers an incredible number of features to help you manage your personal finances. Here are a few of the most notable:
- Dashboard: Quicken has a well-organized dashboard with graphs to show you where your money goes, any upcoming bills, the total you’ve spent, and if you’ve gone over your budget. On the side, you’ll also see the total for any checking accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, property, debt, or savings goals you’ve set up.
- Expense Tracking: You can manually enter income and expenses into Quicken or you can connect directly to your bank to download them. Transactions are not automatically downloaded, so you’ll need to refresh them each time you open the software. While this is a bit of a hassle, you can schedule updates. Quicken automatically categorizes your transactions and shows your spending trends. You can edit the categories as much as you like. You can also track projected transactions to see what your spending balance will be with any upcoming expenses deducted.
- Bank Reconciliation: Quicken makes it easy to reconcile your bank account using your paper statement or your online balance.
- Bills: You can connect your Quicken account to your online bills so you can track your upcoming bills. You can enter manual bills as well. Bill Pay, Quicken’s online bill paying service, is only available for Quicken Premier (although you can purchase the service for an extra fee each month).
- Budgeting: One of my favorite Quicken features is budgeting. You can create budgets by month, quarter, or year. When you connect to your banks for the first time, Quicken will automatically create a budget for you based on your spending, which you can adjust as needed. You can also base new budgets off of existing transactions and spending trends. Quicken budgets can be as basic or as detailed as you want.
- Savings Goals: Another great feature is the ability to create savings goals. Tell Quicken what you’re saving for, how much you want to save, and when you want to have it saved by, and they’ll tell you how much you need to put aside each month. Quicken will ask which account the goal is tied to and will track your contributions to that account. You can set as many goals as you like.
- Personal Property Management: You can add your assets, like cars, properties, etc., and their approximated value in Quicken. You can also add any debts, such as student loans or mortgages.
- Investment Tracking: Quicken also lets you track your 401k or IRA investment accounts. Quicken Premier has added investment tools like a tax optimizer and Portfolio X-Ray tool. Premier also includes a lifetime planner where you can enter your retirement plan, assets, and expected living expenses to see how much money you’ll need to retire.
- Reports: Quicken offers nearly 50 reports to help you analyze your finances. Budgeting and spending reports are particularly insightful.
- Print Checks: You can print checks directly from Quicken.
- Credit Score: You can check your credit score using Quicken as well.
- Debt Reduction Planner: Though not always accurate, the debt reduction planner can help you gauge how long it will take you to pay off your debts. You can use the “what if?” tool to see how increasing your monthly payment or adding a lump sum payment can help get you out of debt faster.
- Tools: Other Quicken tools include a built-in calculator and calendar.
- Importing/Exporting: You can import data via .csv, .qif, or .qxf. You can export files and reports via .qif, .qfx, or to specific programs like Excel.
Customer Service & Support
Rating: Excellent
Happily, one thing H.I.G. Capital did not maintain after the Quicken acquisition was poor customer support (Intuit is notorious for terrible customer service). Phone support wait times are incredibly short in my experience, and I almost always went straight through to a representative. Knowledge varies from rep to rep, but I found most to be helpful. In addition to phone support, Quicken has tons of built-in support and the help search function works well.
Each support option below is available for every tier of Quicken. The premium customer support of Quicken Premier puts you to the front of any phone wait times.
- Phone: With quick phone answering times, this was my go-to for quick answers. Phone representatives can also walk you through sharing your screen to solve troubleshooting issues or explain difficult tasks.
- Live Chat: Quicken’s website has a basic live chat feature, which is mostly useful for sales questions and basic inquiries.
- In-Software Help: The in-software help feature offers short how-to explanations for common questions and features tons of guides. There’s also advice on topics like getting out of debt or creating a budget.
- Help Center: Quicken offers a help center with articles to explain basic functions or troubleshoot common problems.
- Community Forum: There is a community forum where you can ask questions or make suggestions.
- Getting Started Guide: There is a detailed Getting Started Guide that can help you learn how to use Quicken.

Negative Reviews & Complaints
Quicken has been well-loved for most of its history; however, the recent acquisition and subsequent change from license pricing to subscription pricing has increased the number of negative customer reviews. Here’s what users have to say:
- Long-Time Users Miss Intuit: Many long-time users are dissatisfied with the new Quicken product, saying it has more glitches and more expensive pricing.
- Subscription Pricing Is Frustrating: For many, the appeal of Quicken was being able to buy a one-time license and renew that license only every few years. Many users dislike the new yearly subscription pricing model and several reported issues transferring data from past licenses to Quicken 2018.
- Bugs & Crashes: Several users reported bugs and crashes. I, myself, never experienced any bugs but did find the software slow at times.
- Issues Loading Transactions: Some users had issues getting their bank transactions to load correctly. Some had issues syncing their accounts at all, while others experienced duplicate transactions and others still saw incorrect totals. Several users request automatic transactions uploads to avoid this problem altogether.
Positive Reviews & Testimonials
Despite the negative reviews, Quicken is still loved by many and maintains a strong reputation in the personal accounting software world, and the number of positive reviews outweighs the number of negative reviews. The software receives 3.8/5 stars on GetApp and 3.6/5 stars on Consumer Affairs. Here’s what users like about the software:
- Easy To Use: Users appreciate that the software is easy to use, making finances less of a chore.
- Great Finance Management: The biggest praise of Quicken is that users are able to easily manage their finances and stay on top of their money. Users appreciate being able to track expenses and pinpoint their spending trends.
- Good Feature Selection: Users like the feature set offered. Budgeting, reporting, and the planning and investing tools are some of the favorites.
- Affordable: Many users find the software affordable and think yearly subscription is worth it for the features you get.
Integrations & Add-Ons
Rating: Good
Quicken has seven add-ons and connects with thousands of online lenders and banking institutions so you can easily pull in your bills and transactions.
Security
Rating: Fair
Since Quicken is a locally-installed software, security is predominantly up to you. Quicken throws you a bone by allowing you to password-protect Quicken backup files. Read our post How To Keep Your Locally-Installed Accounting Software Secure to learn more about protecting your data.
Some Quicken features and the mobile apps require internet and have built-in security features like 256-bit SSL encryption. Quicken has read-only access to your banking information and all data is stored in a monitored database with firewall protection.
Final Verdict
Despite a number of complaints from existing Quicken users about the new subscription pricing, Quicken is still a great product and offers an incredible number of features. For individuals who are financially savvy or want a great level of detail regarding financing, Quicken is a great fit. The budgeting and savings goals features are also incredibly developed compared to other personal accounting software, and the customer support is excellent. To top it off, although Quicken is a locally-installed program, there are still mobile apps so you view your finances any time you’d like.
That being said, the sheer number of features and the slight learning curve may be overkill for individuals who want a simple way to manage their finances. If you want a simpler, cloud-based personal management tool, check out Mint instead.

I have been using Quicken since 1993, and Quicken Bill Pay for more than 20 years. My bank account was recently hacked, and for the last 2 months, I have been trying to get the new account, opened immediately after the hack, confirmed as the funding account so I can continue to use the otherwise convenient Bill Pay service directly through Quicken. I have spent at least 8 hours on hold during this time, spoken with at least 3 supervisors, got a message from the escalation team, had my case escalated 3 times (or more), spoke with at least 15 different representatives, and despite my complaints, had at least 10 'tickets' opened that would insure that action would be taken.
Quicken 2018 Release Date
If I could give 0 stars I would. I am done with QBP, and very possibly with Quicken. If I find another program that I can seamlessly transfer my info to, I would do it in a heartbeat. Stay away, they don't care, they are horrible. I wish I could figure out how to put this on Yelp (can't find the category) and Google (can't find the link when I search them).

Original review: Aug. 6, 2019In recent years Quicken has taken a nose dive, for the worst. Just a few weeks after purchasing a 2 year subscription, I now find it necessary to pay bills by writing my own checks as Quicken is not reliable. All of my problems center around Quicken Bill Reminder, which no longer works. Have called Support at least 5 times and found they are of little or no help. I would never buy Quicken again!

Original review: Aug. 2, 2019I have been using Quicken products for 25 years and have never had the problems. I am having now, not just the software, but even finding/getting support. I go to the site and initiate a chat and after the agent comes he then drops the contact without responding to my queries or comments. I try again and the same thing happens. I try to go to the community and the question I'm asking has never been asked before. I have to log in to post a question, and it won't let me log in! Either says there is no account with that address or, when I try to create a new account, that the address is already in use!!

Original review: July 23, 201915 minutes ago I called Support and lit up the poor support person. After the phone call I googled Quicken BillPay reviews. This came up. I pretty much said what was you read in previous reviews. Customer since 1998. All I have to say is unacceptable and I'm a software engineer so understand all too well what is acceptable and what is not. I am not kidding when I say I have been telling everyone not to buy this product. So disgusted - and I have a lot of patience when it comes to software given I'm in the industry. In all sincerity I have nothing good to say about this company. The list of complaints is too long to list here. Literally every interaction with this product since new company took over has been painful...

Original review: July 12, 2019I have used Quicken for more than 10 years, and over the past two years the experience has just gotten worse and worse. I have so much data in it, that I really want it to work, but unless things change and soon, I am done. Accounts that I have deactivated are now reactivating themselves and messing up all of the balances. Nothing downloads directly into it any more, making every account that I have to download from a series of steps rather than seamless. There seems to be no one in the company who is listening to the customer experience. Do not waste your money!

Original review: July 10, 2019I got a message saying I should update for new security stuff blah blah blah. So I did, wrong! The new update has a wrong balance and will not sync properly with my bank. I do an update, and do it again, the bank balance is not carried over to Quicken. Now I can't trust anything it says. I will be buying a new program very soon!

Original review: June 27, 2019I have used Quicken since 1998 without problems. Subscribed to 2019 and worked OK after formatting for my 4K monitor. In JUNE 2019 they have updated the software twice (I have no idea why). Since then font size varies with every window opened up. Either too large or too small. When using their LARGE font app to correct for small font size windows and returning to regular use all columns need to be reformatted again. What use to be an intuitive easy to use program is now a nightmare. I can't recommend at all until they fix this problem. Customer service is NON-EXISTENT!!

Original review: June 14, 2019I have read through two years of Quicken reviews on this website. Mostly one or two stars. I would give zero stars if I could. Quicken has gone way downhill since being sold by Intuit to a private equity firm. I know how this works. Cut costs to the bone to improve profitability at the expense of users so they can put lipstick on this pig and sell it to someone else or do a stock IPO.
Quicken probably tries to do too much. The result is a convoluted menu system that is difficult to navigate as it is not intuitive. It can be difficult to figure out how to do some things and generate certain reports as the process can be rather circuitous. I have used many sophisticated software packages over a long career in finance. I consider myself to be a very competent and experienced user of financial software and online services. This is not about me being a technology neophyte.
I have been getting error messages when trying to download my Fidelity account. I called the Quicken help desk and the tech rep had no clue. I spent more than 40 minutes, mostly on hold, and then the call just dropped. Quicken made no effort to follow up with me to address the problem and there was no notification on the website that there is a problem with Fidelity. When I called Fidelity help I was immediately told that there is a problem with Quicken and given a target date for when they hope to have it resolved. If they are depending upon help from Quicken, I doubt that they will be able to hit that target as I have already been trying to address this problem for over a week.
Several accounts are not downloading correct balances and are missing transactions. Quicken shows the correct online balance but that information is not being reflected in account registers. I do not even want to attempt to troubleshoot this problem with Quicken help as I have neither the time nor the patience to deal with incompetence. I am looking for a replacement for Quicken. I have seen recommendations for other services, some of which are free. My son told me that his bank, one of the major US players, has a very good suite of personal finance software. I will check it out next week.

Original review: June 7, 2019Quicken has a nagging error where you are asked to change to a new release. When you check the box to show it no more, it continues to do it again. If you take your computer offline, and back up the data files to your local disk, Quicken asks you to log on to their data center. That is none of their business. When you run their program as System Administrator, Quicken asks permission to modify your computer. Bad idea!! I have used Quicken since it was first available. Many of us are actively looking for an alternative. Quicken, you are not doing well with customer satisfaction.

Quicken Software For Mac
Original review: June 4, 2019I recently was told my subscription need to be renewed with online Quicken to keep my software updated. Since I do not buy the software each year I want to not renew. And now I have to login online account instead of using my quicken that is on my computer. It is such a pain so much wasted time. I have been a quicken customer for over 15 years and loved it but now with the new company ownership they have destroyed my trust in Quicken. I just want to do my own budgeting with the current version I get but they keep asking me to renew to keep it upgraded. Not what I do. I look at upgrading every 2 to 3 years. I hate getting new software that fails and causing me headaches until they fix the issue. Sad days will need to look at another finance budget software.
